PICK AGAINST THE SPREAD: PACKERS -7.5
Last Games: Packers clinched a playoff berth with their 20-3 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Lions did the same in their 20-14 win over the Chicago Bears.
Both the Lions and Packers are in the playoffs, but there is still some work to do, as the winner of this game will win the NFC North and get a possible first round bye. The Lions crushed the Packers in Week 3 in Detroit and they covered the spread in that game. However, in Green Bay the Packers are the ESPN Pick favored by 7.5 points. Green Bay is undefeated at home this season and they are my Fox Sports Pick for Packers vs. Lions season finale on Sunday.
The Lions have won 4 straight games, but in their streak they did not face one team that has a winning record. On top of that they have not been a good road bet as of late, as they are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games away from the Motor City.
The Lions are 4-3 on the road, but all season they have not beaten a winning team on the road. On top of that the Packers have covered the spread in 6 of their last 8 games facing a team that has a winning road record. Oh yeah, and the Lions are only 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games facing a team with a winning record.
The reasons the Lions beat the Packers early in the season was that Aaron Rodgers and RB Eddie Lacy both really struggled. However, Rodgers passed for over 300 yards in the Packers last game and Lacy rushed for 99 yards averaging 5.8 yards per carry.
In their win over Tampa Bay the Packers were dominant on both sides of the ball. That bodes well for them being the CBS Sports Picks by many experts including me. Green Bay is 3-0-1 ATS in their last 4 games after accumulating more than 350 total yards in their previous games and they are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games after allowing less than 15 points in their previous game.
Matthew Stafford and the Lions defense played well in their win over Chicago, but the Lions have only covered the spread in 2 of their last 8 games after a win.
The Packers have to be the ESPN Pick in this game, as they are not only undefeated at home, but the Lions have failed to cover in their last 4 games facing a team that has a winning home record.
Another big factor in GB being the Fox Sports Pick for Packers vs. Lions game is the head to head records namely that the home team has covered in the last 5 games between these 2 rivals and Green Bay is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 home games against Detroit.
ATS and O/U Record
Detroit Lions: 7-8 ATS / O/U 4-11
Green Bay Packers: 8-6-1 ATS / O/U 10-5
